Is LA really like that - everyone on phones in the parking lot??

The scene at the start where all the old guys and their wives/girlfriends are sitting in their expensive convertibles on the phone, while lined up to go into the mall. Is LA really like that? God... I'd hate to live there if it is.

Come on, bzyk, it's like that everywhere now, not just LA. I'm sure if you went outside right now where ever you are, You'd see someone in their car on the phone.

Well that was 20 years ago, now you'd probably see them texting..

It was probably a much bigger deal then, which is why they had the scene. Also, few people had cell phones because they were so huge so they had car phones or "bag phones," which were phones in a case that weren't installed in the car that you'd plug into the cigarette lighter the way you plug-in your chargers today. So, people did all their talking in the car and probably wanted to show off more since they were not yet ubiquitous.
