The Scanners II Cameron Vale/Kim Obrist cop out...

Overall, i think Scanners II: The New Order was pretty good sequel, though i didn't think it was as good as the first, though some people do and some even like it more. Personally i think the storyline is pretty good, the special effects are good, and though i would've rather had Cameron Vale and Kim Obrist continue as the leads, it was still pretty cool to have their son (mostly) and daughter as the focus.

I don't know what the reason for the absence of Vale and Obrist in Scanners II is; whether Michael Ironside and/or Jennifer O'Neill just weren't interested in returning or they were busy or maybe the writers never had any intention of including Vale and Obrist in the movie to begin with or whatever. But does anybody else feel like the plot point that Vale and Obrist had been killed was a total cop out?

I mean, Vale and Obrist's fate after the end events of Scanners certainly could've been handled differently and more pleasingly in Scanners II. The writers could've said that they went into hiding, they could've made small cameos or seeing as how Cameron was able to transfer his mind into another body, they could've had a new actor play Cameron and say he had transfered his mind out of Revok's body. Something better than they were killed because they didn't want to be used as weapons. That just seems pretty weak to me and a total cop out, especially seeing as how with Revok dead, Cameron is the most powerful scanner. You know what im saying?

Other than that disappointing/weak plot point, i think Scanners II: The New Order was a pretty good follow-up to Scanners.

Definitely a cop out, I felt disapointed that they had to mention Cameron and Kim got killed. I mean, Cam was the most powerful scanner around and he got killed by some slimeball cop just out of the blue? That didn't ring true regarding what we had seen in the original, it was just a way to add some more orphan tragedy to the mix, no way Cam and Kim would be killed as easily by some random regular guys.

I also didn't quite 'get it' about Cameron and Kim having children after Cameron transfered himself to Revok's body.

I guess Revok was *biologically* the father, even if someone else was occupying his mind ;)

There is that line in Scanners II - 'You look so much like father'. Not that David Hewlett looks much like Michael Ironside OR Stephen Lack.

Cameron was played by Steven Lack, not Michael Ironside. That was Revok.

Cameron transferred his mind into his brother Revok's body, and Cameron's body was burnt to a crisp. Had Cameron been included in the sequel, then they would've had to use Michael Ironside.
