what a great movie!!!

I remembering seeing this movie when I was a kid and thought it was amazing. Martha Plimpton performance in this flick was seriously underrated and looked over. I still have it on tape to this day.

Oh, yeah, this movie is terrific! I'm really let down that there aren't more threads on this board. There are so many issues to discuss. (Hmm, maybe I'll start one soon, when I have just a bit more time).

Actually I found this movie difficult to understand. As a former foster parent we had children who were returned to their parents and who were adopted from our home. I couldn't understand the vehemence behind her need to disassociate herself from her adoptive family in order to find her biological parents. She wasn't mistreated! I even watched it several times trying to find something I missed. Why would she think that she had been forced to play the violin when she obviously was a pretty stubborn creature who seemed to do ANYTHING her little heart desired, regardless of the consequences? I understand the scene where she sees that music is a definite part of her heritage however those parents were pretty "over-the-top" with their "just give your baby away if it is an inconvenience" attitude. My problem wasn't with the acting. I thought Martha Plimpton, Dermot Mulroney, Ione Skye and the others did the best they could with a pretty quirky script.
