More trivia

A portion of this movie was filmed in the apartment complex where I lived (219 Marshall St, Houston). In the movie it was the setting for Jennifer Jason Leigh's second apartment. They filmed for about a week; by the time it was over, people were relieved that they were leaving. Movie-making is intrusive on peoples lives.

Fun fact: they started filming an indoor scene between Jennifer Jason Leigh and Jason Patric when it started raining, with no signs of letting up. Even inside, there was no covering it up (thunder, etc.). But they hadn't shot the establishing shot yet where JJL enters the apartment, and by then the weather had cleared up. So they brought in a tank truck filled with water and installed sprinkler heads throughout the courtyard, and created "rain" for a scene which lasted less than 10 seconds. The bathroom supposedly in that apartment was really a set built at the Clarke & Courts (TriBeca Lofts) building on W. Clay. The jail was also a set constructed in that building.

My tabby cat appears in the movie; the first establishing scene at the apartment, he can briefly be seen lounging in the courtyard. JJL used to pet him between scenes. I spoke to her once while she was petting him, but she ignored me. Jason Patric kept pretty much to himself. He'd sit in the courtyard writing letters. Sam Elliot was very friendly and outgoing, and it was a privilege to meet him.

Christler,

Appreciate the trivia. I'm in the process of rewatching Rush on DVD. I'll look for those scenes.

Q: What and where is that BEAUTIFUL location at which they are shooting beer cans toward the beginning of the film?

Thanks.

Yeah, Sam Elliot has always seemed like an awesome guy to actually have a beer with.

Wow, JJL sounds like a right beeyatch. Guess she was too good looking to be humble at the time!

haha! Yeah, my daddy plays her attorney at the very end. You only see the SIDE view of his head during there private Q&A session, but you can see him front and center during all the courtroom scenes. He's a short stocky-ish guy with brown curly hair and glasses. Not hard to miss. He was supposed to get full shot during the private scene with JJL, but since it was changed, they actually payed him more! (which is always good news to a working actor/teacher haha)

I just remember being about 6 or 7, having to drive with him early in the morning from Galveston to Houston every time he had a shoot.

I recall him saying how the "courtroom" set had NO air-conditioning...which sorta obviously drove people a little crazy (actors or non)

OH and that he ACCIDENTALLY eavesdropped on Gregg Allman exchanging "words of love" between he and Cher---anyone forget they dated at one time?

Anyhow, that's all I remember. I wasn't in it, but daddy was.

Now that I'm in my late 20s, its nice to have such a great appreciation for the flick!

Someone else told me long ago, she is very rude and stuck up

If JJL would have ignored me, I would have told her to leave my damn cat alone!

I can't believe she ignored you. How rude. May I ask what you said to her? Just curious.

reply

Now I have to watch just see the OP’s tabby. Yeah very cold of JJL to ignore you, especially when the filming was so intrusive on your home lives.
