The worst thing about this movie
There's a lot to choose from, but if i had to pick one thing i would say: The ineptness of the Rocketeer, I know he's literally and figuratively learning on the fly, but even so its annoying and ruins the pace of the movie. I guess the Rockteer's clumsiness is supposedly an attempt at humor, but if it is, the humor falls flat, The Rocketeeer is his own worst enemy, turning difficulty into disaster, wherever he goes he wrecks everything, after a while this grates the nerves like fingernails scraping a chalkboard. We like our heroes like we like our drinks, cool and strong, and somewhat proficient at whatever it is they are trying to do, but this is one hero who more times then not needs rescuing himself.
The scene in the China Clun perfectly illustrates this point he goes to the club to rescue Jennifer Connely ( looking very tasty by the way) by the time he's done, the club is a wreck, and in flames., and i am pretty sure he injured quite a few people, and of course Jennifer Connely, you know, the girl he went to rescue, is kidnapped anyway. The scene wraps up with the Rocketeer trapped by gangsters, and looking up at the one piece of the club he hasn't destroyed, an expensive pane glass roof, and of course, seconds later the pane glass is shattered into a thousand pieces hitting the gas, as he escapes, the ruins of the club.
Indiana Jones, the Archetype the Rocketeer is trying to emulate, wrecked quite a few locations in his time, the only difference is he also left many intact.
Lets make this A rule of action movies going forward, Heroes are not suppose to be clumsy, leave that for the comic relief, Heroes save the day, and leave with their suit un-mussed and their tie's on straight.
the hole movie has the feel of a "Starter," movie for all involved.
