As a 6/7 year-old Lothar's pitiful wailing as the

fireball approached him both scared and saddened me.

Like seeing a big murderous, learning impaired child suffering.

reply

He was a bully. Didn't know what to do when he was beaten and the end was coming so he panicked.

Was he referring to this scene? Haven't seen the movie in some while so I forgot most of it.

reply

That's what I thought he was talking about.

Me too, despite him being a willingly evil person, his frightened helplessness always got to me.

reply

I was happy to see him gone. He's an evil murderer who was aiding the Nazis.

reply

As opposed to a nice murderer? A kindly murderer? A jovial murderer?

I do believe murder is sometimes justified. If I had a time machine, I would go back in time and murder Adolf Hitler to prevent the holocaust. That would make me a heroic murderer since I would have probably prevented the holocaust. Dexter was a murderer and he usually only murdered bad people. In the book Curtain, Hercule Poirot murdered a killer to stop him from killing further since he knew that the law would fail to catch the criminal.

reply

No, you would not be a heroic murderer, just a crazy political murderer. You would not have succeeded since Hitler would be either so full of guards if you arrived after he accessed power, or if before he came to power you may have succeeded but since he had not done anything. So no one would think you were heroic.

You would be just another in a long line of political discontents like the guy that shot Martin Luther King, the guy that shot JFK, the guy that shot the Archduke heir to the Austro-Hungary Empire, the guy that shot Presidents Garfield and McKinley, and other unknowns...

reply

You may be right that it might not be heroic since nobody would know about it. I don't think I would be a crazy political murderer if the death of Hitler prevented millions of deaths.

My main position is that murders of villains would be justified. I wouldn't kill Hitler when he already seized power since the goal of killing him would be to stop the Nazi movement. I would naturally try to kill him when he was a struggling artist in Vienna. Perhaps, a better method would have been to alter history by becoming his patron. I would pay him millions to paint art.

My other argument would be that murders of serial killers would be justified if future murders could be prevented. If I hopped in my time machine again, I would murder Jeffrey Dahmer, BTK Killer, John Wayne Gacy and Ted Bundy before they went on their killing sprees. Those murders would be justified since I would prevent future murders. Dahmer killed 17. Gacy killed 33. BTK murdered 10. Bundy murdered 30.

Or lovely murderer? Gorgeous murderer? Laughable murderer?

Amicable murderer? Affable murderer? Matronly murderer?
