Robot Jox 2 (Fiction :D)

I'm avid lover of this film, it's one of my childhood favorties :) Recently I've been doing a lot of writing and decided why not venture back to the world of Robot Jox. It's far from finished and needs some editing, but heres a good teaser.

Robot Jox 2 : Crash and Burn (tentative) aka El Rio Grande

It’s been 70 long years since the nuclear holocaust destroyed mankind. War is outlawed. Instead territorial disputes between the two major alliances are settled in single combat by massive machines piloted by their nation’s champions…The Robot Jox

20 years ago, a series of battles between the Confederation and The Market’s best Jox’s brought the popularity and tension behind these immense games to unimaginable popularity and consequences. It is no secret that the Earth was irreparably damaged during the holocaust, but it wasn’t until after the dramatic conclusion of the legendary Achilles/Alexander battles, just how truly horrible the situation was. With the match ending in a draw, the custody of the sovereign state of Alaska was left in question for a long time as the two Alliances struggled to bring new Jox and Robots into the games.

Impatient and as Impetuous as always the Market, launched a military campaign to seize control away from the neutral reign of the Judges Council(JC). It was successful initially, but the horror and shock by the Market’s civilian population over an actual war forced the Market politicians to return the territory to the JC. At the trial to punish the Market for it’s wrongdoings, the Head of the JC demanded the reason behind the Market’s attack.

They replied, “Earth is dying, it is only a matter of time before it can no longer support the present population. The valuable resources of Alaska is desperately needed by the Market in order to construct an evacuation ship to colonize another world.” It was the first time anyone had ever mentioned, how dire the situation was…but like most the general population was unable to accept this and in a short time was forgotten by all except the upper echelon of the alliances.

The Games continued as normal and initially it seemed like the Market would pull ahead in spite of their actions and the stiff punishment by the JC, lead by the newest breed of warrior the Gen Jox and more specifically their pride Athena, the first and only female Robot Jock. Things turned for the worse however, and now the Market is losing. Something that they cannot afford too…

------------------------------

We now break our normal programming of “Radioactive Home and Gardening” to present our coverage of The Games taking place in White Sands, New Mexico.

-And there she is folks! The newest Robot Jock for the Market, standing at an impressive 5’7, shes is quite an imposing figure and not a bad one at that. But she is much more then a pretty face, she is quite a lot in fact. For the first time in almost 20 years she is the first Gen Jox to ever compete in the live Games. Quite obviously she also the only Female ever to become a Jock, besides the Legendary Athena. For those that aren’t up to date with their Game history, Athena was a product of years of hard genetic development and was the only member of the Gen Jox, to actually become a Robot Jox, and boy did she succeed. After a disappointing first outing, she went on to set the unbeaten record of 21 straight victories. Keep in mind that the standard contract is 10 fights and that most Jox never make it past their third fight. It is a unparalleled accomplishment, one that I am sure that Rio is set on besting.-

Inside the Robot Silo, comparatively small figures move toward the aging Matusmoto-21 , the outdated but formidable Robotic Champion of the Market. Standing over 300 feet tall colored with the symbolic Market colors of Red and White, The Blood of Champions and Freedom.

At it’s feet, it silently awaited the newest pilot, Rio to enter the lift that would take her up to the cockpit.. Flanked by two white coated technicians, she watched enraptured by the view as everything below her grew smaller and smaller. It still had not fully sunk in that she was about to pilot this elegant monstrosity for the Market.

Time slipped away from her, Techs made final checks of systems. Making sure this body part was secure, another was free to move etc. It was all bustling background to her. The canopy clicked shut and internal life support hissed into effect, her ears grew stuffy and then popped as they adjusted to the overpressure atmosphere.

“Com system check. Test 1 Test 2. Receiving alright Rio?” Jason her best friend and Assistant to the head Tech questioned.

“Echo Comsys check 5 by 5” She muttered absentmindedly, the reality of being a pilot overtaking her normal cheery demeanor.

Jason’s normal quiet almost mousy voice boomed throughout the Bay.

“Clear the Gantry. All personal clear the gantry!” echoed repeatedly. Red warning beacons flashed and flickered below. Inside the monitoring station of the command floor, Jason stared at Rio in mix of lust, concern, and puzzlement. They had been friends since they were in diapers, Jason was terribly afraid that she would be killed in the Match. Mortality rate was high amongst the Jox...but then again my god she was hot in that skin tight jump suit.

Achilles couldn’t help but laugh silently. It was obvious to everyone but the two how each other felt. However there where more important things to consider right now.

“Lets get this show on the road, son”

“Hm? Oh! Yes sir Achilles. Initiating Gantry “

A soft whump, a slight feeling of heaviness signaled to Rio that she was on the way. Above her, the massive silo doors gave way before the mighty Matsumoto-21. Sunlight made Rio squint, as the terrain appeared before her, spectator stands flanking the battleground in the distance.

The robot shuddered momentarily and was still, a deep sigh escaped her lips and Rio smiled. All the tension seemed to melt away now that she was actually in the field.

“Let’s begin Waldo interface check”

Rio flexes her fingers, the robot doing so in kind. A foot stomp is echoed seamless by the Matsumoto.

“Looking good”

“Of course, don’t I always?”

“well…um…”Jason stuttered, turning red.

“How are you feeling Rio?” Achilles intervening.

Rio punches her fist into her left hand, the Robot echoing with gesture with a deafening clang of metal. "Ready to kick some ass. Can I go now dad?”

“Go”

The last saftey clamps fell away, and she was now truly in control. Jox and Robot stepped forward.

I'd remove the line "...but then again my god she was hot in that skin tight jump suit." We were all thinking it anyway, but if you say it doesn't sound good.

Hmm. Good point . Thanks :)

No theres not. Crash and Burn has no relation to Robot Jox(aside from the robots) It was just subtitled Robot JOx 2, to pick up on the popularity(albiet cultish popularity). It's not a sequel

reply

[deleted]

Yes there is a sequel. The sequel was called _Robot_Wars_.

reply

*sigh* You must not have read the last few posts. Robot Wars is not a sequel, aside from the fact that it had big robots. There is no connection between Robot Jox and Robot Wars. It just has the subtitle Robot Jox2 to catch onto the cult popularity of Robot Jox.

Work in progress still sadly :( Hopefully soon though

Technically, everyone here is right about the sequels... and then again, with a little imagination, your wrong.

Really, for anyone who just PRETENDS, Robot Jox technically has two sequels, being as...

See on this website, search for Robot Wars and Crash and Burn... see how both of the covers each feature a giant brown robot on two legs, just like Robot jox does (the robot on the left for robot jox's cover) somewhere along the line, im betting everyone these movies are related definatly.

Besides the fact these three movies are all highly oriented on giant robots battling, thats not the only thing that relates them as a triolgy.

Now, you think the three robots featured on the covers are mere coincidence?

Well, Robo Warriors, another film once thought to be also part of this little... pretend series, really isnt. You know why?

Look at the cover... No Brown Robot on two legs... Unlike Robot Jox, Robot Wars, and Crash and Burn, which all have that same brown robot.

So in a way, all the plots of these movies are near the same, and the robots look like theyve just been recycled from movie to movie...

Your judgement. You choose.

The production company (Empire Productions) that made these films was owned by the Band's. Charles Band directed 'Crash & Burn', Albert Band (Charles' Dad) directed 'Robot Wars' and Stuart Gordon (protege of the Band's) directed 'Robot Jox'. 'Robot Jox' bankrupted Empire Productions with it's soaring budget costs. 'Crash & Burn' is basically a shoddy story without a proper connection to it's predecessor that's been pieced around a left over effect's sequence from 'Robot Jox' in a desperate attempt to generate some much needed cash for Empire Productions. Not really a sequel, more of a recycling of some unused bits for a bit of extra cash.

Hey help me with that. I also remember Robot Jox from chilhood,. And I remember three movies. The first one was Robot Jox ( I remembred the title a while ago while searching for it on the net) the second was a "Robot movie with a giant Scorpion robot" that was Robot Jox 2 in europe. BUT there was a third movie. And I had it in my mind as a robot Jox sequel, i do remember it has a Robot Jox writed on it's cover. The movie started as some guy drove a chopper thrue a desert, The whole movie was a bad horror where a bunch of people were trying to kill a cyborg that was amongs them. And the only "Robot Jox thing" in that movie was when they killed the cyborg, they used an old giant robot from the wars that have been long ago bla bla bla. I'm sure that was also a Robot Jox movie. Anybody knows anythinf about that??

m8, this is great...

i will be checking out the links for sure,
have you tried your hand at any other stories?
i quite like your style of writing.

reply

Some, but I have a problem with finishing things. DUnno what it is but I get great ideas in my head, I start a story and then get distracted and don't return. :( I hope to be finishing this soon though.

I'm glad you like what is there so far though :)

What if your story included some sort of fallout of the system, giving access of the robots to guerrilla combatants, beginning a real war of the robots, rather then just a 1 on 1 combat. Maybe start pushing that idea forward in the second act, and make it unleashed in the third, where massive robots would be going against the country. Maybe one man, your lead character, would have to use his robot, to get into a special location, to stop it all.

Perhaps the guerrilla robots could be smaller versions of the robot jox ones... man oh man... your concept for this script is really starting to bring ideas into my head, maybe I'll get started up on a script in that direction too. It's been too long since I've been writing!
