About the ending **SPOILERS**

****** SPOILERS ALERT ******
I caught this film on TV last night, but I had to go out before the end. I watched up to the point when Henry starts asking questions about the case he won in the beggining of the film, saying to his partners (in a restaurant) that not mentioning another patient's testimony was unfair etc. Could somebody please describe what happened after that point, until the end of the film?
Thanks in advance.

Not totally sure at what point in the movie is the scene you're describing....he ends up giving info. to the people his firm ripped off, so they can get just compensation. He finds out that he was having an affair with another lawyer, and his wife was having one with one of his partners. He and his wife stay together and live happily ever after. He should have got the oscar for his performance. Playing the rotten, genius lawyer, and then the innocent 8 year old. This is one of my favorites. Maybe someone else can give better details. Try to see the rest of it.

Thanks a lot movie1955. That was very helpful. Could you answer some more questions? Is he thrown out of the company? Does his mental status improve? If not, what does he do for a living?
Thanx again.

no, he quits the firm. becuase he dont like what they do there. and he goes to the school and picks up his daugther and the movie ends with him walking away with his daughter and wife.

Adding to what daviie said...He quits right after he gives the info. to the people the firm ripped off...presumably the firm gets in hot water because of that...he says good-bye to the lawyer that he was messing around with before..she obviously is still in love with him, he couldn't care less about her, of course, since he doesn't remember her. What I liked about this movie was the contrast between the jerk lawyer he was, and what a nice guy he became after being shot, even tho mentally slow. Presumably his mental status remains as is, and no indication is given for how they will make a living. His wife and kid are obviously much happier with him as he is, rather than as he was.

Right, movie1955. And i agree, i liked it for the same reason you did. A very feel-good movie. And you summed up the ending very well. This film does a very good job of showing the importance of decency and family values versus having a lot of money and power.

he still had the mental capacity of continuing to be a lawyer, he just couldn't stomach the "dirty lawyering" he & his firm were doing any longer. thats why he quit. he personally gave the "smoking gun" document to the plantiff to make things right. upon telling his boss of his departure, his boss was getting a call from the plaintiff's attorney so henry got out of there quick before getting yelled at

It's kind of implied by the snooty friend that she should go into real estate and then she calls from an office so I think she did. She may make enough money to support the family but obviously not in that apartment so her suggestion of a smaller house was probably as much financial as him needing to get away.

I know this is several years old (like the Iraq war) but couldn't you have rented the film to see what happenend? Well, here's what happens:
1. Henry finds out that he had won that case dishonestly and goes to the person who sued the hospital to give her info that will help her reopen the case).
2. He decides to leave the law firm because he can't live this sort of life anymore.
3. He realizes why he remembered the Ritz thing-it was the Ritz Carlton hotel where he conducted an affair with his colleague.
4. He found out his wife was also having an affair.
5. He and his wife reconcile and they go to the private school to pick up Rachel, who apparently isn't happy there. Why they have to do that really ticks me off. Too cliche ridden for me.
