There's always:
KISS ME DEADLY
99 RIVER STREET
DEVIL WITH A BLUE DRESS
And of course, COTTON COMES TO HARLEM and COME BACK, CHARLESTON BLUE (they aren't set in the 50's, but the two detectives take center stage in each film)

Perhaps Harlem Nights if you haven't already seen that one...

"Hated by fools and fools to hate. Be that my motto and my fate."

I haven't seen these, but doing an amazon search on what other viewers liked after they watched rage in harlem, I decided to see what they liked.

I found Ruby's Bucket of Blood, which is set in the early 1960s segregated south. (I think it has to do with an interracial relationship.)

Eve's Bayou has a storyline that moves backward in time to 1962 Louisiana. It's about a 10 year old girl who witnessed her womanizing father involved in something shocking.

Once Upon a Time When We Were Colored is set in 1940s Mississippi. It's about fighting racism and acheiving political/civil rights.

The Josephine Baker Story

For the Love of Ivy, 1968, Sidney Poitier

Idlewild, is a musical set in 1920s

Hoodlum, set in the 1930s New York (also directed by Bill Duke)

Devil in a Blue Dress, set in the 1940s

Well, that should be a good starting point. Like I said, I haven't seen any of these, so all of them could be real losers, who knows... But maybe you'll find one or two in there that you like.

Cotton Comes to Harlem (1970)
Come Back, Charleston Blue (1972)
The Cotton Club (1984)
Harlem Nights (1989)
Devil in a Blue Dress (1995)

Also, if you like this movie, you should really check out Chester Himes's books. Bill Duke and his cast did a great job of capturing Himes's wild, violent, funny, over-the-top Harlem crime novels. In particular:

For Love of Imabelle (a.k.a. A Rage in Harlem) (1957)
The Real Cool Killers (1959)
The Crazy Kill (1959)
The Big Gold Dream (1960)
All Shot Up (1960)
Run Man Run (1960)
The Heat's On (1966)
Cotton Comes to Harlem (1965)
Blind Man With a Pistol (1969)
