Don't forget Genevieve!

There are three main characters in this movie. GP plays a pivotal role, there is no story without her and she shines like a razor blade in the part.
Not sure how or why the other two have gone on to bigger and better things and she has been left behind.
Certainly in the early 90s she was noticing that parts for 40 year old women seem to drop off while the age of male actors seems more or less irrelevant. Maybe she will hit the big time when she is 89 and then they will call her a National Treasure.

You're absolutely right, she's stunning in this role. And it is in fact harder for women, particularly those over 30, to get decent roles, particularly those not conforming to certain stereotypes. But if you don't have Celia, you don't have Proof; Picot makes her both chilling and, curiosly, sympathetic as well. I haven't seen her in anything else, though I'd like to. I felt bad that she was excluded from Eucalyptus, which otherwise reunites the creative team from Proof.

Where did you hear about Eucalyptus? I can't find anything about it on IMDB or All-Movie Guide. Is it a movie, a play, or what? Thanks.

reply

I think it's a movie in pre production to star Russell Crowe. I heard somewhere that it had been post poned. Genevieve also had a small role in "Muriel's Wedding" as the store detective.

reply

It was a movie that crashed and burned before ever getting off the ground.

Genevieve is my sister's sister-in-law :). She is a lovely woman.

reply

Or, your brother-in-law's sister?

reply

She could mean that Genevieve is married to a sibling of her sister's husband.

edited to fix wording.

Not sure if you're still around, but your sister's sister-in-law is a phenomenal actress; I saw this back in the early 1990s and never forgot it. Fortunately, I just found it on Amazon.

It takes a lot of natural talent to inspire such a strong dislike for a movie character, or to leave viewers wondering all sorts of not-depicted elements of the character's past and personality. Genevieve managed all of that here.

Hope to see her in some other work even though I'm over here in the USA.
