It's been a long time since I saw it, I posted a comment about seeing it and getting sick from the rape scene. I still felt queasy and I cried, what angered me was the mother. I didn't know whether to feel sorry for her or hate her. Her behavior of acting like what happened didn't happen. Maybe that was her way of dealing with her rape and she got so caught up that she neglected her children's injury.

The mother had an agenda. She wanted to marry old man Newberry after his invalid wife died. She knew he'd never marry a rape victim so she demanded the cover-up.
