The letters flying pff the marquee then the word POSSESSOR appear

HOW exactly did the killer achieve this?

more importantly, how did the reggae band use keyboards and electric guitars and whatnot to entertain the crowd during the power outage?

THANK YOU that is another good question!

also,
How did Toby master voice shifting in such a way as well as state of the art human face mask making?

Why didnt the professor move when he saw the mosquito coming at him?

Why did Dee Wallace Stone have such a dyke hairdo?

thank you!

Yeah that was the only thing I didn't like about the movie - it hinted that the villain was supernatural/could invade dreams, and then it just ended up being a dude in a mask like Scream. Other than that, it was pretty good!

reply

Technically, that moment was seen as Dee's point-of-view so it could get away with that. Toby might be a master impressionist, but I doubt it. That was odd. And the killer in When a Stranger Calls Back (another Jill lead role) was a master ventriloquist.

Films are not reality. Reality is not film. Film is only an approximation of reality.

My biggest issue with this movie was definitely what this thread is discussing. There were many moments until the killer is revealed that make it seem as though he has supernatural powers.

I agree with all the points mentioned so far about the villain's non-human abilities, another one that stands out for me is how the Tina character showed back up in the lighting booth without the killer seeming to be there. The first time we see her after she has died, he seems to be manipulating her from behind like a puppet. That I can pretty much accept. I get that he could make the makes and dress up like people, it mostly makes sense when he does this with the teacher, but we're supposed to believe he can look like Tina and have her body type?? I don't understand.

It's unfortunate, to me this was overall a pretty decent, original movie, but the plot situations and ideas just don't add up right. Is it so hard to write a script that makes sense?

Apparently so.

Popcorn seemed to teeter between spoof, slasher film and serious horror. It doesn't all work out smoothly and you are right about the killer adopting Tina's body type - if the legend of the movie theater encompassed a strange force, something that could will people to commit murder and do so in a supernatural manner, that would have been acceptable.

Popcorn was 100 percent spoof. It was too tame. It was seen as horror-lite upon its release in theaters. It did very poorly and was out for maybe a week. I like it anyway, but the movie only seems better now because Horror has sucked for a long time now. To point you look back on POPCORN longing

reply

Well, I do look at the film with some longing now because it was ahead of time, not because horror movies are not what they once were, Conjuring excepted.

Also how did Toby have a copy of the guy's face (in the white suit) to use to kill him in the toilet, as he wouldn't have had the chance to make the copy of his face in the first place. As we saw earlier in the film he makes a copy of the professor's face after he has killed him but how did he get the other guy's face.

Oh, who cares. I enjoyed the film anyway.

reply

Early in the film they make a plaster of white haired guys face. It's during the cleaning up the theatre montage.

I think maybe she imagined it. Like, it was all in her head or something. I'm trying to remember if it ever showed the marquee after that and what it said. Pretty sure it didn't still say Possessor, there would have been lots of discussion about that if it had.
