Was anyone else really disappointed?

The premise sounded like a whole lot of fun, but as the movie went on it just turned into a convoluted, boring mess. And I didn't like the villain either, he was way too cheesy and unbelievable.

Not the worst I've seen, but simply just not good. 5/10.

Yep, it's terrible.

I actually saw this in the movie theater when it first came out. Me and my husband thought it sounded like fun -- I think what got us was it had some good trailers or TV commercials or something. This was back in 1991.

I watched it again because I couldn't remember a thing about it. For good reason! It's a steaming pile!  It's not even "so bad it's good." I'd rather watch a Sharknado movie -- at least they seem to know how bad they are.

No, I think it's actually pretty good. I love the movie theatre setting, the tribute to the prop gimmicks used with old horror/sci fi films, and how the killer can look like anyone. Plus it feels very 80's, despite coming out in 1991.

so sorry bra, I can, nah, don't even want to know what you consider a real strength type of Horror film, or any decent film for that subject. The first poster was absolutely 'Dead On Correct'. This looked promising, for about 5 minutes, Tops. Then it went down hard, straight into the crapper!!!

Terrible, awful acting by the film female lead. She looked like she was reading off of a cue card. All the others were sub-par in their own right. I collect 'older' "OOP' (Out Of Production) DVDs, that have become 'pricey' & therefore highly collectible. This dumping ground of a flick just happens to fall under that category (No mind for taste, imma guess'n) anyways. I decided to obtain this pigstye flick at a 'decent' amount of freight.

When the robber sent out the DVD of "Popcorn" to my mailbox, I knew immediately upon opening of the package that this creep sent me a bogus home burnt copy. ALL 'burns', 'DVD-R's', 'copies', 'bootlegs' 'home-plays', 'rips', or 'boots' are completely WORTHLESS in the secondary disc market. They're utter, worthless trash. So I demanded my cash back, and done told them that they wasn't getting their burn back in the mail.

Told them that I could keep it myself with my returned payment, or I could send the rip to the ignorant robots at Scamazon, and let them talk it out. So after all my speech here, what I'm all about is that bootleg that the one schmuck done sent me, that i finally threw it into the machine to finally watch its worth.

Done glad I didn't throw any type of bacon strips towards that awfully smelly ripped disc form, I couldn't even calls if I done really dropped some cash on that stinker. Stay away from that title of "POPCORN". Matter of facts, stays far aways from that cinematic cesspool!!!

It's a terrible film, sure, but still amusing nonetheless. I mostly just like the atmosphere of the movie theater setting and the tribute to William Castle. Bad acting? Well duh. Complaining about bad acting in a horror film of this ilk is like complaining that there's carbonation in your soda. And I have great taste in horror films, that first sentence just made you sound like an smug and arrogant snob. You have a right to your opinion, which I respect, just as well as I do.

And that's all it is anyway, it's all a matter of opinion. And there's nothing more sad than not being able to accept a differing viewpoint. That must be a burden that's truly hard to live with. I'm so sorry.

So it is not worth a blind buy?

If you can get it cheap, and are a fan of 80s STYLE horror, I’d give it a chance.

I didn't like it either, very boring and not a good story.

I liked it. Had some laughs and the actor who plays Toby is excellent. I read he died a few years after this film. The films within the film were really well-done homages to that era of sci-fi films. I thought this was one of the best 'anthology' films I've seen and enjoyed it in general.

reply

yes. it was a well promoted film and when i finally got to rent it it was disappointing. looking back at it now on youtube i see why. it's kind of silly and there's too many familiar cameos. but it's good to see the early 90s, it's not so bad to watch now and and the actresses are attractive.

I liked it. 8/10 from me.

Agree. It's a great movie. Cool insight into the history of William Castle and what makes movies so communal. Reminded me a little of Be Kind Rewind.
