just finished watching this film for the first time, and... wow, what a wonderful movie. i really liked velvet goldmine- but i think i enjoyed this film more.

interesting, that in the "hero" section, we never actually fully see the boy (richard, i believe) on screen- i think at one point there is a posterior shot of him for a few brief moments- but that was about it.

"horror" seemed to play out to me like a bizarre twilight zone episode... another poster on this board connected the spread of the deforming "sickness" to AIDS/HIV... which, i didn't initially think of when i watched it, but upon reading that comment, yes, i can see the connection as well-

"homo" reminded me of fassbinder's "querelle," which i just found out- is based on jean genet's work as well, lol, so i guess that makes sense- but this section was really beautifully shot, and i may watch it again in the next few days- dark, gritty, brooding, erotic- don't know what to think about the spitting scene just yet though... but again, great film.
