Is the 18 (uk) rating for this film justified, I am 16 and was wondering how bad it really is. I've seen Mysterious skin, more disturbing or less?
No, the 18 rating is not justified. Poison is a very beautiful and strange movie in every aspect and has been haunting me in a very positive way since I first saw it on the TV very late at night when I was 12-13 years old.

Where are peoples parents these days seriously. Some things are just not ment to be experienced by younger viers thats why we have a ratings system.
Ratings systems are just supposed to serve as a guide--they're not supposed to be followed as if they were law. Many countries around the world have a much more lax attitude towards sex and eroticism on screen (and a less permissive attitude towards violence), which results in much different ratings than in the US. Also, in many of those countries nobody checks your age when you enter a movie theater, even if you're a teenager going there by yourself. And guess what? The vast majority of people in those countries don't turn out to be perverts (just like the vast majority of people in the US don't turn out to be sexually repressed). Let's not put too much faith in the movie ratings system, shall we?

shareI would have no problem with my 12 year old watching a film such as "The Lover," with it's explicit love scenes and nudity. In fact here in Germany it is rated for 12 years. However i don't think i would want to expose someone so young to a film like "Poison," because of it's violent sexuality, and disturbing imagery. This is a good film, but if I had seen this at age 12 i think I would have been a bit scared and sickened by it.

Sorry to say, I think many 12 year olds do experiment with sex, and I think it's natural, providing they are experimenting with other 12 year olds. 12 is when the body starts to change, breasts, pubic hair, etc.. Along with those physical changes come the sexual feelings as well. People who believe that 12 year olds are not sexual are in denial about human nature. And the worst thing to do to a child is teach them that there is something wrong with their sexual feelings, or that their maturing bodies are somehow dirty, or "evil." Let nature take it's course. If people want their kids to stay "pure and innocent" forever, then they should just buy dolls. I would however, fanatically protect my young kids from violent images, such as films like Hostel, and even many video games.
And? many kids younger then that experiment with sex. , What your talking about has nothing to do with the subject. That doesn't mean you should indulge in it by taking it apon your your self to expose them to sexual imagery ment for a much older audience like in this film. The fact of the matter is you shouldn't have a hand in the exposing your child to unregulated sexual imagery especially of a graphic content becuase they aren't old enough to under stand the ramifacation of that and its neglegent on the part of the elder gaurdian.
And thats has ntohign to do with you ALLOWING your child to partake in adult behavior as a child such as recreational sex.

People like you are what's wrong with America, people who think they have the right to enforce their standards on others, who think the rating system is 100% fail safe and should be followed. The fact is there will never be a film rated NC-17 or R that people under the reccomended age can't handle. There will always be 13 year olds and 15 year olds who can handle these type of films, which is why ratings work as nothing more then a guideline and should not be taken as gospel.
