Is this it? Spinning basketball on finger for long time.

I seem to remember watching a movie when I was younger in either the 80's or 90's with my Dad. It could have been made earlier than that but, I was thinking it was about Pistol Pete Maravich but, I could be wrong. All I remember from the movie is a scene that I thought took place in the 50's. It was in a soda shop and this young boy spins a basketball on his finger for like an hour or two straight. I'm thinking he was surrounded by some local townspeople. I also remember it kept showing the clock to give an idea of how long he did this for.
Could this be it???
