filming location?

Does anyone know where Paris Trout was filmed? The book was loosely based on events which occurred in Milledgeville, GA, in 1952 or 1953. Since I live in Milledgeville, I'm interested in knowing where they decided to film the movie.

I was working in Decatur, Ga. in 1990 when some of the movie was filmed there.
The courthouse in particular.
At that time the movie wasn't titled yet.
Driving Miss Daisy was filmed there also.

Paris' store and that part of the filming was at the RF Strickland store on highway 19 in concord, ga. The store itself was a general store until just a few years back...but it still looks EXACTLY the same today. My buddy's dad was best boy on the set, and I live not very far away.

Many other parts were filmed in Crawfordville, GA (parade, downtown scenes, etc.)

Much of the movie was filmed in McDonough, GA -- in particular Paris's house (which was a then-McDonough councilman's home). I was a newspaper reporter in Henry County during the filming, and many county locals were used as extras.

Several weeks of filming took place in Crawfordville, many of the extras were from the Augusta GA area through a local casting agency. The staff and cast stayed in Thomson, McDuffie County. The parade scenes, outdoor courthouse scenes and deleted scenes with citizens in stocks (among others) were filmed in Taliaferro County (Crawfordville).

Check out the scene carefully where the policemen remove the accused young man from the car and are escorting the prisoner into the courthouse for the trial (Dennis Hopper is having a conversation on the front lawn with the Sheriff and looks toward the sidewalk where they are walking)- you'll see none of the people walking on the sidewalk are wearing shoes and you can see how dirty the white socks of one of the police escorts have become from shooting the scene numerous times. Ooops!
