As film critic Brian Orndorf wrote, "...one of Columbus's best films, and easily ranks as Candy's most dimensional performance". I agree. Of all the movies where Candy plays the leading role (disregarding his supporting roles now), this one is his finest hour. He showed an emotional dimension.

John Candy should have at least been nominated for a Golden Globe as best actor in a Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy. 1991 was a tough year, with Billy Crystal getting a nod for "City Slickers" and Robin Williams and Jeff Bridges for "The Fisher King", but I still cannot forgive the Golden Globes that they could not find room to nominate Candy as well... And now, it's too late...

He could've/should've easily taken Dustin Hoffman's (Hook) spot. He was nothing special in that.
