Because I believe that dubbing spoils a film, and it would definitely spoil Only Yesterday.

But why not do it for the people who prefer dubs? Having it dubbed doesn't force the people who prefer subs to watch it, but it prevents the ones who like dubs from watching it the way they prefer.

While I prefer subtitles I don't see how dubbing a film ruins it. It is not like in the days of video where there was only one sound track. It is good to have both so fans of subs and dubs can enjoy the film.

Hm, I have watched several films both dubbed and subtitled (I'm talking about films for which I understand the original language) and the dubbed ones are usually changed considerably from the original. This is much less the case with subtitling...
On the other hand though, the best film ever made must reach as large an audience as possible...
