How the heck can bullets hurt Delia and Alexander anyway??! Damien had to be killed with special ritual daggers, and only the daggers.
I am surprised the filmmakers did this.

But then, the doctor does make it clear that Damien is the 'whole, the power' so maybe he and the Devil are the only ones invincible to earthly weapons?

(1) There's no reason given in this film to believe that bullets wouldn't hurt the kids.

(2) Even if we take the earlier films to determine fictional "facts" that must obtain in this one, Karen had no idea that bullets wouldn't hurt the kids. That scene is about Karen taking actions that she believed would work.

(3) It doesn't matter anyway whether we go with (1) or (2). The kids are fine. Karen is not.
