Iv read the book and found it even worse than this movie. I dont care what any man or Irainian man says. No muslim man or any man for that matter have the right to hit a woman! It dont matter if your married,your husband has no right to hurt you or take your child away from you. It dont matter if he did it in his own country it's still kidnapping.
I don't think he did in real life. If you've seen pictures of the real people, Betty is a pretty big woman and Moody is more average height.

shareAll the facts in the book were corroborated by the daughter. It is also an accurate depiction of Iranian society, at least at that time. They're still a fundamentalist theocracy to this day though, so I'm unaware of much significant change especially in the field of woman's rights.

1. What if she was a soldier in a war, does the other party not have a right to incapacitate or kill her? But she can kill them?
2. What if the woman is psychotic and is about to murder your children, does the father have no right to stop her from killing the kids?
3. What if it was in defense of self or others? Do men not have a right in certain circumstances involving bodily injury towards the woman?
4. What if she was to burn your house or rob a bank, do police officers or victims of said crime have no right to stop or arrest her for fear she will be physically hurt?
So many other reasons...... yet do you still stand by the statement ' no reason to hit a woman?'
