Quick scene with farfetched moment and no follow up!

At the end, before the famous 2-pt conversion pass to win the game, Manu Manu puts the big hit on flattop. However, flattop's facemask flies off and there is a ton of blood pouring out his mouth from the hit! It's really quick but I just can't get over how unrealistic that is. A facemask wouldn't come off like that. Also, in the midst of all the celebration, there is no way that someone laid out like that would just get up and walk away. There would have been an ambulance and all his teammates, coaches, and first aid staff of both sides would have been surrounding him cause he would be that seriously injured. Maybe even have to be carted off the field. If he really was ok, they could have showed flattop but there wasn't even a moment they showed him post Manu Manu hit.

It's just so phony, like they went OTT just to show that a big hit was put on. There are other ways to do that for filming football scenes.

I've always liked this movie. Watch it every year prior to the NFL season. It's just that this quick part which they filmed that way on purpose, doesn't belong.

Who's that coming 'round .... that corner..

I love this scene lol...I used to slow it down on vhs when I was a kid a watch it in slow motion haha. This was a movie about their team, not flat tops team, they're not going to show him being attended to in the midst of a celebration scene. It's one of those things that's implied with how the hit scene was done. Why it was sooo big. It was the hit we were waiting for all movie.

Uh, I'm afraid you're mistaken. I cannot recall when I saw it, but I've seen a facemask broken in a college game.

That object you're tracking isn't a large asteroid. It's a very large spacecraft.

Do you know how many college games are played every Saturday?....for the last 100+ years?
I'll bet there's a broken face mask somewhere in there.

reply

Face masks are actually made with a certain amount of give and then the purposely come off. Kinda like ski bindings.

I don't think it was blood coming out of his mouth. I think it was what was left of his mouthpiece. It was black and the part that connected to the face mask was hanging out

you had a college team with a 35 year old quarterback and you want realism?

reply

Well do you want that Manu KILLS Flattop? Can't hardly do that...so, within the scope of a football game (and play), what else could happen? You don't want it to be an actual injury, like a broken bone bc it's a comedy.
As for no paramedics and trainers and whatnot.. well, the budget might have been getting a little thin towards the end.
