Rare footage of River Phoenix doing research for MOPI

While searching for My Own Private River on YouTube earlier, I randomly came across this rare(?) footage of River Phoenix interviewing the street hustlers who inspired the movie. I've never seen this footage before so if anyone can tell me where it's from it'd be greatly appreciated.

That was interesting to watch. How long after this did he die?
I wonder if the girl he mentioned was Martha Plimpton. I noticed that the guy named Mike, who seemed reticent to talk, made it into the movie.

The street hustlers featured in those videos all had cameos in the movie. They're all listed in the credits, and are also pictured in promo pics for MOPI. Some of them also lived with River for a short period of time while the movie was filmed (which was in 1990, I think).
