reply

Nah. I mean the lead is a girl, but she's also a tomboy, surrounded by non "girly" peers.

reply

Not by any means.

reply

Not really. If anything it's more like a cute family movie. I love coming of age movies and this one is my all time favorite, even my older brother likes it and he's your real man's man.

When sex is involved, it's always special circumstances.

reply

I'm watching this movie now with my 14 year old son and he likes it! I would classify it as a family movie as well

reply

Just curious. how old is your guy friend & did he actually watch part of it or just judge it from picture on it's cover ?? Cause it's pretty lame if someone judges a movie just by the pic on it's case. I remember a few years ago on the IMDb page for That That Thing You Do some putz called it stupid & "gay" by the pic & refused to even try watching it.

reply

hes in his mid 20's and yes he watched it.

reply

It's considered for anyone, it's not a girly film

reply

No, it appeals to both men and women.

reply

Not really, its a coming of age drama but aside from the period scene the themes can apply to just about anyone. I don’t really see it as a family film either, sure the content isn’t anything all that objectionable but it’s actually a lot deeper than one might think and many of the psychological elements might go straight over kids heads.

reply

No because even Veda herself didn't seem girly. She was kinda on the tomboy side.

reply

No, Vada was being a tomboy. She converted to girly by the end by letting her hair down and wearing a dress.
