Yes this movie is great!!! I find it very entertaining. The acting, the story, the twist, the fashion (fan of the 80s), and even the humor. I really enjoy the detective's insights as you watch him question the parts of Cynthia's story that just don't "add up".
To answer your question, Joyce killed Arthur, because she thought Arthur was going to talk after Joyce had been covering Cynthia's murder of James the entire time. However, as the detective points out, Cynthia knew that Joyce intended to kill Arthur, and did nothing about it. Actually she did do something about it. She let Joyce know that she wasn't home, and that the kids were with her, to give Joyce the opportunity to murder Arthur when he was home alone. Arthur was finally done with Cynthia, was filing for divorce, had threatened to take the kids, and said if she said a word he would turn Cynthia and Joyce in. This gave Cynthia and Joyce a motive to want him dead.
Of course Cynthia took the position that she didn't know Joyce would actually do anything...and the detective said he believed Cynthia when she said she loved her husband. Also, I got the sense that it was Arthur's murder that pushed Cynthia to finally go to the police, as she was there voluntarily. So Cynthia may not have known--or wanted to believe--that Joyce was planning to kill him.
