Would anyone want to see a modern day take on this event?

I'm not talking about another 'Pearl Harbor' or even a re-make of this film.

Almost a bit of a shallow film that doesn't focus on the court marshall, Mcvay's suicide etc. Just really focuses on the sinking and then mostly the shark attacks???

Or if you were to want to see a modern day take on this event....what kind of film would you want it to be?

Just curious anyway...

I wanna be just like you. I figure all I need is a lobotomy and some tights

A major motion picture called "Indianapolis" is in development now, tentatively scheduled for release in 2009, but only IMDb Pro members can get any info about it on IMDb.

I would want to concentrate on the ordeal of the men in the water, but also on two other aspects:

(1) The heroic actions of the rescuers;

(2) The hideous series of SNAFU's that left the survivors in the water for four days. The ship's SOS signal was heard by three ships, according to Wikipedia. On one ship, the captain was drunk, on another the captain insisted on not being disturbed while sleeping, on the third the captain thought it was a Japanese hoax. Meanwhile, when the Indianapolis failed to arrive on schedule in Leyte, the lieutenant who was monitoring the arrivals, and knew the Indy was late, failed to report it to anybody, possibly adding at least two days to the four-day ordeal. Why didn't he report it? And were court-martial charges ever considered for anybody other than Captain McVay, or was he picked out for sole scapegoating from the beginning?

exactly.. i totally agree with the both of you. not another pearl harbor hollycrap crap piece (that could have been depicted so accurately)
but a movie that really honors Capt Charles McVay, the men who went down with the ship, all the men who died before being rescued 5 days later and the heroic 317 survivors of the sub. to give then the honor that is long overdue. if they focus any attention on the suicide and exoneration of the court marshall i think they should focus a lot of attention on his son Kimo McVay who spent his entire adult life doing everything he could to exonerate his fathers name before his own death. which the over rulong was very shortly before kimo's own death

They did make this movie again.
What we actually got was: "USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage", which isn't as good.

Dear God that sounds like one tedious film! 90 minutes of floating men getting picked off by sharks ... kill me now!
