Release Date

Why in the world did the studio release this movie I April instead of December? It's like Miracle on 34th Street, which I watched the other night. They released that in May. Maybe I should go check out Born on the 4th of July to see if that had a December release date.

Studios traditionally like to market holiday/family films in December and action/blockbuster films in summer. So a spring/autumn release sounds about
right for this picture.

Also market more female oriented films at Christmas. This film does not target either of those demographics. Though some women may enjoy it, it is primarily aimed at a male audience and is most definitely not a family picture. It didn't do very well upon its Spring, 1992 release. I suspect it would have fared even worse with a December release. Too downbeat for the holidays. To release this film simply because the plot is set during that time of year is ludicrous.

Ludicrous? That's a bit strong. Maybe it's April release was why this gem didn't do so well at the box office. I also look at one of thee best Christmas movies out there (It's a Wonderful Life) which didn't do well at the box office in its time and a big part many claim, is its Summer release. So maybe a case can be made that, that was "ludicrous!"
