The Scope

A minor but interesting prop in the novel is a 20-power scope that Knott has to scout terrain. It is more powerful than any binoculars of the era would have been, and snipers' assistants often used them to search for targets or confirm hits by snipers. Knott loses his in the encounter with the Germans, they return it but he definitely loses it by the end of the novel.
In the film, however, it looks like the scope is a telescopic sight, far smaller than the real 20-power scopes of the period would have been.
