I agree. It might be italian movie but still has a greek temperament in it.

one of the best italian movies of all time. and that's saying alot.

for those of us who are italian, or know the italian culture, you will laugh to see so many of your friends and townsfolk represented in the characters.

the gentle fool, the artistic dreamer, the sarcastic know-it-all, the man mad for a woman, the brothers so close they share everything.

as an italian-american, i find this movie to be universal in it's simple pleasures.

would that i could find that island today.

Hello. I'm from Turkey and I might say that this movie is one of my all-time favourite movies.

First of all, we, Turks are same as Italian and Greek people (like other mediterranean countries). Same characteristics, same behaviour. For example, we drink "Turkish" coffee, Greeks drink "Greek" coffee, although they're the same. Italian coffees may differ. :) We dance same, we laugh same, we cry same, we mourn same... Remember, after the Aziz "the Turk" robbed the soldiers, the Greek priest says: "Never trust the Turks" (or something like that) This sentence was said not only for us, but for Italian, Greek, (even Spanish and more) too. Therefore, the motto of the film "una faccia, una razza" is well chosen.

The acting and the music of the film is also "top class".

Finally, I would like to thank to IMDB-user sparkleydiamond for the island's name.

One of the warmest movies ever. So clever and so true in depicting the emotions of people during WWII, people who had nothing to do with the insanity in central Europe. I wish movies like this are made more often and young people nowadays have the opportunity to see many of those.

I saw this movie in 1991 and remembered that I enjoyed very much. It demonstrates those qualities of the Italian character that are joyful and human. There are other aspects of Italy that were not so lovable, represented by Mussolini and the Fascists. But then, there are few countries that are free of the dichotomies of good and bad. I'm teaching a course on war cinema and including clips of this delightful film to offset the grimness of so many of the other films. I'm showing "Rome: Open City" as the main feature with clips of "Paisan","Two Women", and "El Alamein"--so the joie de vivre of "Mediterraneo" is necessary. In the spring I'm teaching a course on Italian cinema and I'll show this film in its entirety.

I dragged two movie haters to see this in the theater when it came out. They can't stop raving about the experience to this day.
It makes you want to slow down and get lost on a Greek Island every time.

A sweet, funny film. The stuff of fantasy, obviously, but such a lot of charm.

It's a very warm and amiable film that seduces the viewer. The ending was poignant and bitter sweet though.

I re-watched it yesterday after lots of years, and once more I loved it. It's a very simple though incredibly entertaining, cute, warm movie. And that music score is so evocative, poignant and perfect!
