this cant be as amazing as it sounds can it????

Christopher Walken as an action hero (!?!?!!?!!?)

Victor Argo (the mob boss from Quick Change and a mobster in Ghost Dog and lets see a mobster in King of NY and a mobster in Next Stop Wonderland, and ummm I think he was a mobster in Cyote Ugly even... sadly he passed away a couple years ago so this guy is now doing community or dinner theater playing a mobster somewhere in Heaven.) is the evil dictator

Michael Ironside (Of whoam i'll gleefully follow into any B Movie) is one of Walken's partners.

Luis Guzman

Jay "Ninja Turtles" Patterson

and its named after an action movie from The Simpsons

there's a catch right?

This movie makes any schwarzenegger movie (except predator and total recall) look like a john cusack movie. If you want to talk about government material, lets talk Ironside '08.

In reality its one of the worst films ever made. Walken must have been extremely desperate to stoop to this level. I paid 97p in the UK for it and I would say I was ripped off.

...Then again its almost so bad that its actually good...

The funny thing is, it's obvious that Walken is bored stiff.

You can see a look on his face throughout the whole movie which kinda says "oh my god what am I doing here, I hope no-one sees this movie'.

Yeah, it adds to the comic value of it all. He must have agreed to do it for minimal involvement of himself, even though he's the main character. One take and that's him done. Not to mention his character's entire lack of emotion and personality. I'm shocked it has such a high rating...

James Glickenhaus worked so hard through the 80's to become an established action director. He burst onto the scene with his derivative, but highly engaging scummy revenge movie THE EXTERMINATOR. Two years later he followed up with another gritty action movie (with a horrible script) called THE SOLDIER which showed he had a good handle on the action sequences (one standout is the downhill ski chase).

Then in 85 he mis-fired with Jackie Chan's first American film, and then made in 88 his only "good" film with a half-decent script THE SHAKEDOWN with Peter Weller and Sam Elliot. He was riding high, and could have done the quintessential 80's action film at that point... but instead chose to completely unravel his career with this total dud which sealed the fate of the 80's action film.

I love the cast though... and some scenes are so hopelessly idiotic that they're funny (the shooting down the F1 with a pistol)... and there are a few quality kills (like the guy getting shot out the window, falling onto the car, then bums steal his wallet and shoes! Rare diamonds in this otherwise rough movie.

nothing cooler than Walken staring out the jet window with his awesome aviator shades on,
casually aiming his pistol at the other pilot and with a single shot killing the man, sending the million dollar jetfighter careening to the earth where it explodes without any debris, metal, or indication that a plane had just crashed

Agree about Walken being bored stiff. His whole performance reeks indeed of "oh my god what am I doing here and when will this be over." Can´t really blame him. Usually he´s a genious though.
