Simpsons McBain first?

Can anyone give a definate answer as to whether or not this movie was released before or after the first appearance of McBain on The Simpsons?

It just seems like too specific of a cheesy name to be a simple coincidence. It seems more like a little joke that the Simpsons' writers came up with and totally got away from them.

The Simpsons came up with the concept first. This movie was a take off from the Simpsons, and in fact, the producers of the Simpsons actually lost the rights to the name "McBain" and that's why they came up with Rainier Wolfcastle.

I thought that the Simpsons got the rights to use the name back. Also, I don't think Rainier Wolfcastle replaced McBain, but that Wolfcastle is the actor and McBain is the character. But who the hell knows.

I'm pretty sure McBain's first appearance on The Simpsons was in the episode "The Way We Was" which, according to my episode guide, aired January 31st, 1991.

According to imdb, McBain the film was released on the 20th of September 1991.

So there we go!

Have any of you people bothered to look at the trivia for this film where it gives you the answer? It's not brain surgery it's called common sense

'I used to drink a lot. I had groupie's and a tour bus, and I wasn't even in a band'

reply

Well not everyone has common sense nowadays.

Don't argue with me, I'll take anyone on. Even if they're bigger than me.

"MENNNNDOOOOOZZZAAAAAA!!!!!!"

Regardless, this has to be one of the dumbest, most unintentionally(?) hilarious movies I have ever seen. It's even funnier for people who have actually BEEN to Colombia.

"Please! I have to drink in here!"

True, Its certainly not the best film ever, but it has some amusing moments! Besides, It has Christopher Walken in it - and thats a saving grace for sure.

Pfft, you are obviously an utter fool. If you can't appreciate the brilliance of this truly astonishing picture then get the flock out of here.

This movie and the Simpsons are preceded by another movie with a One Man Army named McBain who fights off Mexican terrorists.

Its called Bulletproof and stars Gary Busey as Captain Frank McBain.

I haven't seen this but am trying to get ahold of a copy. Not because of the simpsons thing but because Gary Busey movies are hilarious.

I never laughed so hard at a serious action movie. When the guy got shot in the chest with a shotgun and was pulled out of the window and fell onto the car... wow - LOL. That part was so funny, I had to keep rewinding it and watching it over and over.

Glickenhaus said he got the name from the McBain family in Once Upon a Time in the West

reply

I've never seen this dumb-looking film but surely its existence makes the "Simpsons" joke all the funnier, although it really should be some brawny foreign b-movie action star in the lead (like say Dolph Lundgren) rather than an accomplished Academy-Award winner like Christopher Walken.
