What did Abby give Maureen just before her date with Billy?

It looks like a rolled up dollar bill, but why rolled up? It might have been 'mad money', common at the time, so that a young lady had money to get herself home in the event of a quarrel with her escort. At least Billy did take her home even though he was just as much a creep as his father. Any other theories?
