Dad lets Dani and Quart hang out at house alone?

He knows his daughter has a big crush on Quart, and that they hang out and swim together. But to invite him over as he's leaving for the hospital and say "you kids have a good time." He seemed too strict to do something like that. And as soon as he left, Dani wanted to start making out with Quart. What's that guy thinking?

reply

I think he knew that Kourt wouldn't do anything to Dani and maybe he didn't realise just how serious she was. He told her to invite him over anyways - because he didn't want her to have to hide it from him.

Jason London's character was not a unit of measure, by the way. His name was Court.

For the time frame this being set yes, he wouldn't think anything about it. People had respect for other people and morales. Not everybody was a sex craved teenager back then.

Eric- Maybe I'll grow on you?
Sookie- I prefer cancer.

Maybe the dad was hoping to throw Maureen and Court together? Remember he tells Dani that her sister will be coming soon?

Dad was awfully strict about Maureen's curfew and quizzing Billy. He probably knows that Billy is a sleaze and thinks maybe Court would be a better bf/match for Maureen?

If so, it ain't nice what he does to Dani, but dad knows that Dani is young and resilient while Maureen seems a little too pre-occupied and "lost." You'd think that with her looks she would have all the boys in her school buzzing around her. Instead she only has sleazy Billy and his lecherous father. She needs help.

And Court is there. Sure down the line there would be the possibility of Dani and Court, but I believe the dad is thinking of NOW. If Maureen who seems "easy" has to lose "her virtue" with anybody, let it be Court.

Anyway, that's my take on it.

reply

I disagree with Dad putting Maureen with Court. I think he told Dani and Court that her sister would be along shortly so that they wouldn't think to do anything because she would catch them. We also have to remember, she is a "little girl" and this is the early sixties. It's made pretty apparent several times in the movie. She's more interested in kissing.

I literally laughed for like five minutes out loud after seeing the "Quart" thing. I don't know why I found it that funny, but...Quart! Hahahahahaha!

"And then he started cheating...especially at magnetic travel scrabble."

reply

Ok, you got me. Glad you think it's funny. But Maureen knows the real reason he's called Quart :)

^ nasty.

I actually laughed awhile too!
But honestly, perhaps 'Quart' would have been a better name for that character.
He was such a goofball.

C O U R T - a place where tennis is played, judges preside, or guy's name in a movie.

Just in case we have a 'tard thing going on here.

reply

His name is Court for the movie because he ends up courting two girls in the movie. Well, courting Dani in her own mind, that is. Or maybe Court, because he was found guilty in "the high court" for doing what he did to Dani, and paid the price for it with his life.

reply

I think the father couldn't really even conceive of the idea that they would do something physical. For every overprotective dad out there, there is also one who is naive and can't imagine their darling daughter getting into things too young.

Well, when the dad drove off, he said "Your sister will be here shortly" with a very stern look on his face. As if to say, "So no funny business." That's how I always took it.
