Is this film ever available on DVD/VHS

If it isn't, will it? God, I love this film. I ran into it for years ago and, still, i can't get it out of my mind. Each scene is simply terrific, beautiful. Huppert's performance is superb. It's a shame that this film, and other Schroeter's movies, gets so little recognition. There's no one out there make films like Schroeter does! It's too bad i can't find any print of it. I heard that Fassbinder Foundation is responsible for Schroeter film. Is there any plan to get his films available on DVD? I hope, so.

It's even hard to get here in Germany. There are only 5000 VHS copies available which were released in the 90s, so you have to wonder how many still exist today.

And there aren't any 35mm prints for rent, so in film class we had to watch it on video which didn't do the picture any justice.

In 2008, this movie has been released on DVD-R and been sold in a limited and very short time at the 3-Kuchenreuther-Cinema-Counters in Munich - it has perfect picture and everything - but it is only the german version of the movie without subtitles - the edition is out of print by now.

Maybe someone like "Arthaus" will bring it to a wider audience in the future - don't know...

Until then, i'll live with my DVD-R...

I finally found it online, downloaded it, and there IS a version with full ENGLISH subtitles!

There's also a DVD copy without subtitles, but the SRT subtitle file can be found online separately, which makes the DVD version the best after you acquire the SRT. I urge you to have a look.

I tried watching both versions, but the limited VHS was far less clear visually. If you prefer the subtitles in the VHS version, you can replace the ones in the SRT file yourself.

Currently, the film isn't available on VHS or DVD. We should all try to rectify that by writing to Criterion.

'Malina' will be released on November 10th 2011 in Germany. The DVD will contain german & french audio as well as german and english subtitles.

There will be a BluRay-Release on the same date.
