NOT as if this is keeping me up nights, but...

...anyone notice that in so many movies in recent decades past, Hollywood's "idea" of a plain Jane/ugly duckling/nerd-ette is to get a beautiful actress (in this case, Sandy B) and have her wear glasses that are too big for her head and dress in sort-of K-Mart fashions? THEN she goes through a "miraculous" transformation...jeez.

Sandra Bullock as a plain Jane? OY!

Yeah, Not Another Teen Movie had a whole scene about that:

And the ratty hair extensions, buck teeth, and pretty sure she had a fake nose in her 'ugly' mode.

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

Well, a couple of things. (I just started a post about this myself, but the opposite of yours.) First of all, Sandra Bullock was completely unknown then. I saw this movie over 20-odd years ago, and she wasn't yet SANDRA BULLOCK. This was before her big break in a leading role in Demolition Man. She wasn't America's Sweetheart yet.

Second, I happen to think that this is the most successful ugly to pretty transformations out there. She was butt ugly to start off with. I fell in love with her when she transformed.

I want the doctor to take your picture so I can look at you from inside as well.

There was an ad for LASIK on the wall at the BART station that showed a pretty blond wearing glasses. She looked absolutely fabulous in those glasses. And the ad was supposed to convince people to get LASIK?

The right glasses actually make some women look prettier than without glasses. So I don't know why Hollywood thinks glasses make a woman look bad or nerdy! And you couldn't make Sandra Bullock look bad if you had to!

I intend to live forever.
So far, so good.

this is on right now and I am watching it for the first time...

I swear I see a slight mustache and a gap in her teeth. that can't be easy to 'make' on an actress.

and it is not just about how you look but about how you behave.

from the bumbly way she keeps on getting traffic tickets [apparently from the same guy] to the way she speaks to people who fall for her -- including the cop who keeps on pulling her over -- really, that is even more of the reason why she is single

even the gary guy who would use her vulnerability and loneliness as a sex aid. really? he knew she would be an easy lay.

Oh God. Fortune vomits on my eiderdown once more.
