My sister and I must have had a flare for finding films to love as kids that not many people have ever heard of. This was one of them. I still love this movie and watch it but I sure can't find anyone else who's seen it and loved it too. I'm 24 now and I'll keep watching till I'm an old lady :)

Don't worry I love this movie too. I watch it with my mom every Christmas or when it is snowy. It is a sweet story with delightful characters, I am surprised that it is not that well known.

All I remember was that the girl could not see his face or he'd have to marry that witch. And she had kids with him and never saw what he looked like. I thought it was weird when I was little. Unless that is a different movie? Maybe I'm not talking about the same one....Haven't seen it in years.
shareI recently remembered this movie. I was reading a book called East and the resemblance was uncanny. I picked it up because it sounded like a twist on Beauty and the Beast, which it is. However, as soon as I started reading it, I realized it was lamost identical to this film. Unfortunatekly nobody I know has ever even heard of it. Apparently however, they must both be based on a Norwegian fairytale called East of the Sun, West of the Moon.
shareThe book "East" and "The Polar Bear King" are both based on "East of the Sun, West of the Moon." It is a very old Norwegian fairytale and is similar to "Beauty and the Beast." All I can say is I love them both!!
I love this movie growing up, too! I haven't seen it in years, but I do remember watching in school in 3rd or 4th grade. Then I moved from Alaska to Idaho and no one here has heard of it :(
