How about the part in which he is appointing some noble guy as a Sir, and, when doing the symbolic lowering of the sword, he accidentally chops off the guy's ear??

That was to die for!!

I'm watching it on HBO right now, and burst out laughing at the beginning when Raplhs says to Mitzi the Monkey, "You little back-stabbing bitch."

Two words... "Spotted Dick" ;-)

I liked the part where Ralph is choosing material for his jacket and he chooses what turns out to be a loud pattern (possibly for intended for some drapes) and O'Toole says to him, "The British people do not want their monarch to look like a sofa!"

When Cedric and Duncan almost high-five each other, then stop short because of their British restraint.

When Princess Anna finally talks and sounds like a man.

reply

My favourite bit too! Also when Princess Anna and King Ralph are outside and she is describing things to him that are just, well a little naughty, and the look on Ralph's face as she talks.

reply

"Spotted Dick !!! Dick of what???!!!"

One must wonder how many Americans googled "Spotted Dick" later! 

There is a scene where O'Toole and Goodman (Ralph) are in the room in the palace where the paintings of all the kings who came before him are displayed. They come to one, and O'Toole is describing who it is to Ralph:
O'Toole:"...and this is your ancestor George III, He was king during that little...temper tantrum..you called the American Revolution."
Goodman: "We kicked your ass, didnt we?"
O'Toole: "The loss is entirely theirs..and please try to remember youre an Englishman now."
Goodman: "Well, okay..but I still say they kicked our ass!"

In addition to all these great scenes mentioned here, when Ralph goes out for the evening (for the first time), and Duncan informs Cedric.

Cedric says, "Think man you've just been made King, where's the first place you would go?"

And the scene cuts to John Goodman sitting in a strp club watching a show.

I love the very first scene when the camera shows all the electrical chords are in the big puddles of water! that made me crack up. and when Peter O' Toole says that line about Hello your majesty or something like that and says "Not, (and then in a lazy accent) how ya doin'?" lol. that was my favorite one.

"When in public, a royal personage must refrain from the following: Chewing gum. Using profanity. Picking his nose. Scratching his..private..parts. And staring down the bust lines of visiting female dignitaries."

reply

Spotted dick...Dick of what?! John Goodman just sells it and his expression makes me lol everytime!

I also like when Sud first meets Ralph and he asks "have you ever been to England before?"
"No, but I have almost all the Rolling Stones albums"
"Well then, you're practically a native!"

"Are you going to your grave with unlived lives in your veins?" ~ The Good Girl

reply

"Quickly, Duncan, the strengths!"

O'Toole's delivery is so great on that line.

The best joke of the film was probably unintentional, but funny anyway: when "King Gustav of Finland" was introduced. That's like a fractal of history fail.

What never fails to crack me up is the scene at the dinner party, when Ralph first cuts into that piece of meat and his knife slips and the meat jumps off the plate and knocks over his neighbor's glass of wine, thus causing a chain reaction all the way down the table, upsetting wine glasses and spilling wine over all the guests, and when at last it's over, Ralph tries to to brush it off with a polite "Excuse me."

I like the cut scene of the palace shortly after Ralph finishes addressing Parliament. Just after the punk rockers @ the TV store. The scene cuts to a shot of the palace w/ a river in front. Well, on the opposite bank, there are two trees, one behind the other. The one in front looks like a low-slung weeping willow, while the other is tall, thin & erect (a poplar, maybe?). The two, together, look like a fist w/ a flip of the middle finger. Don't know if that was intentional, but it was quite funny!

This one's an underrated line from Cedric: "Your Majesty, when meeting someone, it is better to say "How do you do?" than "How ya doin'?" The thing that makes it funniest is the way he lowers and Amercanizes his voice to imitate Ralph's when he says "How ya doin'?."
