You might wanna try 'Into Thin Air: Death on Everest', which is a 'true story' about the 1996 disaster on Everst, in which legendary climber Rob Hall perished -- at the time of his death had reached Everest summit more times then any non Sherpa in history.

Great, highly recommended Everest/climbing movies:
- Everest: Beyond the Limit (Discovery Channel TV series, 2006-2007)
- Touching the Void (not about Everest though, 2003)
Other decent movies about Everest:
- Everest (IMAX, 1998)
- Into Thin Air: Death on Everest (TV, 1997)
touching the void was bad ass....
shareYou may also want to look for these titles:
Vertikal (1966) - Russian
Five Days One Summer (1982) - Sean Connery
The Climb (2002) - Andes
Vertical Limit (2000) - K2
Beyond Gravity (2000)
Nordwand (2008) - Eiger
The White Tower (1950) - Glenn Ford, Lloyd Bridges, Claude Rains
& what about Stallone's Cliffhanger? OK, maybe they're not similar but I found those titles using keyword search for "mountaineering"; hope that helps.
For the documentary about the tragedy of the June 2008 ascent of K2, where eleven mountaineers succumbed to the mountain check out "A Cry From The Top Of The World".
At least for people living in Sweden you can watch it on the Swedish Television's homepage, until the 4th of Februrary this year here:

another doc is "K2, Killer Summit "
shareThere is a documentary I enjoyed by Werner Herzog called "The Dark Glow of the Mountains" it follows Rienhold Messner and his climbing partner as they go on an expedition to climb Gasherbrum I and II. Which are in the Karakoram range which is the same range that K2 is in. Myself and many others consider Rienhold Messner to be one of the greatest mountain climbers. He was one of the first to advocate the Alpine style of mountain climbing which can most quickly be described as fast and light. This is demonstrated in the movie. He has climbed all the 8000+ meter peaks without supplemental oxygen. This movie isn't well-know but if you like the subject matter i'd give it a gander.
shareNorth Face/Nordwand(2008) - German period movie about some pioneering climbers. Brilliant.
shareA little bit of a classic, but The Eiger Sanction is a pretty good mountain climbing film. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0072926/
shareIt's not about Everest or K2 but "The Climb" was a decent movie about Hermann Buhl's solo ascent of Nanga Parbat. The only solo first ascent of a 8000+ mountain. Without bottled oxygen as well. Bruce Greenwood did a pretty good job portraying Buhl. I haven't seen it in at least 20 years and would love to get a copy somehow.
shareSome great suggestions here. But whatever you do, don't watch Vertical Limit. Not only was it a terrible and bull$@#$ climbing movie, it was a terrible movie in general.
shareYes, what a ridiculous movie. A friend of mine thought it was great and highly recommended it. I've never walked out on a movie but was pretty close on this one.
Another pretty good movie that I just remembered is "Storm and Sorrow" starring Lori Singer. It's about an American team attempting to climb Lenin peak back in 1974. Tragically, prior to the American attempt, a 8 member team of Russian women who had made the summit were caught in a horrible storm. All of them eventually were killed while trying to make their descent. I just ordered the DVD so looking forward to watching it for the first time since it`s 1990 TV debut.
Try "Everest" (2015).
shareWas wondering if someone was going to post that here.

Since the post was created in 2008 no one had the chance to post it.
Sherpas is also a good documentary. And Meru is also really good.
