Bad for Angie

I felt bad for Angie, for Flipper he was only with Angie to sooth his jungle fever, but she truly fell for him. The main reason he was with her was only because his wife kicked him out. Also the way he broke up with Angie was so cold! She actually saw a future with him, was willing to have his children and let it known shamelessly to the officers that Flipper was her boyfriend!

I felt bad for Angie too. Her life was running pretty smooth until she started seeing Flipper. I wonder what happened to her job as a secretary after that? I bet she quit to avoid any awkwardness in the office. Plus she tried going back to Paulie and he shut her out too. At least her father let her back in the house. I think this movie in general was sad. I mean I'm not saying that all interracial relationships end the way Angie and Flippers did.

A part of me feels Flipper really loved her too though. He just couldn't handle all the outside forces.

To me this movie was always problematic because, while I have absolutely no problem with an interracial relationship, I have a major problem with cheating spouses. Angie absolutely did not deserve the beating from her father; otherwise I didn't feel too sorry for her or Flipper.

You are right. She shouldn't have been sleeping with a married man, but she didn't deserved to get abused by her father. That scene makes me so angry and the comments on youtube are disgusting.

Oh my i felt the same way. I really hated how Spike wrote that storyline. I actually saw something special with Flipper and Angie more than with him and his wife. I hated how spike made Angie nothing to Flipper and i hated how Flipper treated her. I really didn't like Flipper's wife at all i preferred Angie and by the way I'm a black woman.

Years later I actually don't feel so bad for Angie, well besides the beating. She was sleeping with someone's husband and father. Flipper only shacked up with her because his wife kicked him out. I don't think Angie slept with Flipper because he was Black and she had this superiority complex but Flipper on the other hand slept and dated Angie for all the wrong reasons. Remember that movie "The Family that Preys" Not necessarily race related but it show how a side chick is likely to be treated.

I agree with you 110%!!
She took all that guff, and hung in there!
At the very beginning, she said she was outgrowing Paulie and her neighbourhood.(new horizons)
He did the "right thing" by going back to his little girl, but he was a very selfish and careless person, if he didn't see that Angie loved him, unconditionally, and he was all she had.
I know this is an old post, but Annabelle Sciorra's performance just brings out the protector in me.
So, thank you for starting this thread.

Angie was the only likeable character in the movie.
