An oscar nomination for Tommy Lee Jones?

Serious? Tommy Lee plays quite flat and contributes largely in the movie, and he is in, makes no impression on me. One of many Oscar nominations, I never come to understand.

His performance is wonderful. So subtle in his demeanour yet commands the screen. His homosexuality for me is very nuanced and never sensationalised in regards to his performance.

I thought Tommy Lee was stellar in this film. I didn't know he was nominated, but glad he was. He dominates every scene he's in, not easy for such a fast-moving film!

Are you being sarcastic? It was a caricature of a flamboyant gay man! I'm as baffled as the OP regarding the Oscar nom

I found this performance to be one of the best I have ever seen.

I don't know if the poster who made this thread is on here, but to me Tommy Lee Jones' character was great and he made me want his character to go to jail. Also even if you don't think much of his performance he was more worthy than Jack Palance who played a stereotypical old cowboy. The most unimpressive performance to ever win an Oscar. Frankly though I think the Oscar should've gone to Ben Kingsley in Bugsy over Tommy Lee Jones though. But I'd have been happy with either of them winning over Jack Palance in City Slickers.

I disagree, I thought Tommy Lee Jones was brilliant in this film, his cool and calm persona with a hint of menace bubbling underneath the surface was perfectly done and his character contributes greatly to the story, without his character there actually is no story.
