Zosie, utter poison, messes up everyone's life and comes out at the end smelling like a rose - Vivien murdered, the Ryecart baby dead of SIDS, Adam's and Rufus' lives disrupted and bitter, Shiva an utter failure and dead in a racist attack, a innocent man labelled as a murderer (the Coypu man) - and all attributable to Zosie's poisonous presence. People like her ought to have a skull and crossbones tattooed across their foreheads so that people can steer clear of them.

Must admit it makes a jolly good story though, typical Ruth Rendell.

Has anyone ever known a walking plague like Zosie in person??

It is true that Zosie was a walking disaster area, but remember she was the product of child sexual abuse - a damaged and disturbed person. Adam and Rufus were thoroughly unpleasant people anyway and bad news for anyone in a relationship with them. I don't think the failure of their future relationships could be attributed to Zosie. The only nice person with any sort of moral compass was Vivienne - the innocent sacrificed.
