Dorothy's Hair

I was trying to think why would anyone wear their hair in such a style - but then it dawned on me that perhaps she was trying to emulate Mia Farrow in Rosemary's Baby.

I don't believe it was ever stated what year this is supposed to take place. I thought I saw somewhere that it was supposed to be '63. However, Frank mentions that Dorothy used to be a flower child - which was roughly 1967 (summer of love). Rosemary's Baby came out in '68 so perhaps that was the inspiration?

If that's the case - another point for Mr. Penn.

BTW - Viggo OMG is he a sexy man in this one.

It's just a "pixie" haircut which was a popular style for women throughout the sixties, which I suppose began with Jean Seberg who wore one in the French New Wave classic À bout de souffle (1960). Then there's Edie Sedgwick and, as you mentioned, Mia Farrow who wore similar styles.

I know you wrote this post a year ago but that haircut is the EXACT one that my aunt had when I was a child....and I also got one forced on me a few years later. This REALLY made it work as far as time is concerned. She looked so much the era, in fact, I thought they did pretty good at making the late 60s real for us as viewers.

Now Playing: Whatever movie I am commenting on for the time being.
