I was wondering the same thing! Unfortunately i can't remember the explaination in the movie!

Prostitute: What the *beep* are you doing?
Johnny: I'm gonna kill a bunch of people.

I would also like to know as I can find no definition of the term, other than some bizarre kind of duck. Anyone else other than the singularly unhelpful sjorsgerritsen know what it means? I haven't seen the film and don't particularly intend to.

Bette Davis uses the term in "All About Eve": "The little witch must have sent out Indian runners, snatching critics out of bars and steam rooms and museums, or wherever they hole up." Sounds like some kind of stealthy undercover agent.

In the movie the Indian runner is a predator that takes the last breath from

its prey. A downer movie but good regardless.

At the beginning of the film it is explained that an Indian hunter would hunt deer by knowing that deer ran in circles and wait out them running themselves tired. Then he would come upon them and draw their last breath and understand the peace of dying. I think that Joe represents the hunter slowly trying to wrangle his brother, frank, into a normal life.

If it simply means 'Indian hunter', fair enough.

As no other origin of the term 'Indian runner' has come to light, I guess it was lifted from "All About Eve", seeing as that film is very well-known. Mankiewicz (a screenwriting genius) must have coined the term.

The IMDB credits page gives actors for characters "Indian Runner" and "Young Indian Runner".

Kenny Stabler ... Indian Runner
Don Shanks ... Young Indian Runner

think it has to do with living in an earth alienated culture.
