Did anybody here ever meet Ken McElroy?

Just curious if any posters are from the St. Joe's/Skidmore area and ever met McElroy. I was only 7 at the time of the shooting and wasn't really watching the news back then, but did hear of it at around the 10 year anniversary. The book, also called In Broad Daylight is really good. It states that even to this day (book was revised last year with an added epilouge) people remember McElroy and the terror he caused quite well.

There are those who worship work and worship the people at work. I worship neither.

Ken Rex McElroy was my Dad. I don't remember him...my mom put us up for adoption when I was about 3 years old. I have 2 other brothers and a sister (full blood) that were also put up for adoption about the same time.

Did you reunite with the rest of your family? How did this news affect you about him? I'm adopted also and have a few bad apples in the family but nothing like this that I know of.

I did meet my birth mom and her kids/my step siblings, and I also met one of the brothers that had been adopted separately from me and my brother Ken. There were four of us at the time. My brother Ken and I were adopted togather, and my other brother and sister were adopted togather to another fam. I didn't even know they existed until I was in my 20's and began looking for my mom. It was alarming to say the least, to find out about my Dad. It was confusing to try to reconcile "who" I was, with this person being my Dad. I don't remember him, so it wasn't a mourning really. I am no longer in contact with any of my fam. It wasn't a joyful lasting reunion like you hear about on Oprah! I don't regret it. And it was nice for a short time but there were so many issues and my mom and I didn't know how to address them- they became the big elephant in the room.I think the way we choose to handle it was to drink. And that didnt help!
So we kinda went our own ways. I still live in the same town as her. I haven't seen her now for probably 24 yrs.! Actually I think a couple days ago I saw her coming out of a store. I'm not sure but I did think that was her. Awkward!

You can email me at [email protected] if you want. I'm interested in hearing about your adoption experience.

Fascinating story. Thanks for sharing. I've heard these reunions often aren't happily ever after although maybe a few are. I can understand how some of the old resentments would remain.
