Stupid stupid rain...

Judy Davis was hilarious in this role. And like all good comic actors she played it straight, not for laughs. I love that great scene where she's actually mocking the hostess that's housing and feeding her: "This stupid stupid rain..." She comes off as a real jerk, but she's so damned funny, I can't complain.

Yes I love that all these great artists turn out to be the houseguests from hell. And that Chopin calls them out on it. He thinks George Sand is a real *beep* at that point too, she just keeps digging herself deeper in the crapper with him (with a little help from Marie).

The houseguests from hell with the kids from HELL.

LOL, yes. And also, Emma Thompson really is funny as the idiot hostess in Impromptu.

Yes, and her hair cracked me up! With those 2 big balls on the side of her head, I don't know if she reminded me more of a Simpsons' character, or one from Dr. Seuss!!

Oh, I know, but that was a real hairstyle in that era! (You can find images online of paintings and fashion plates, lol!)

They did wear some strange things--I wish I did find a man who expected those corsets and hoops--he'd be tossed out on his ear!! Hahaha...

Well I'm in Chopin's corner on this passage, it was really rude to ridicule someone like that after they had been so hospitable to them - and to do it in their own home, even! It was the one time in the film George wasn't sympathetic and shown to be bitchy. She was definitely aggressive and condescending at other times in the film but she was never cruel. And seemed out of character for her (though not for her "friends") given she clearly got along well with the husband even if she could barely tolerate the idiotic wife.
