beastie boys?

in the scene where the three big black guys do their "audition" for Play in the record store, is their bad rapping supposed to be referencing or making fun of the beastie boys.

one of the lines they say is "say what, the popcorn!" which is a line from the beastie boys song Shadrach from Paul's Boutique(1989). they also say "open up your ears and clean out your eyes" which is a line from their song "alive" but i dont think "alive" was out when this was made. anybody know?

Both of those lines are very cliche, old school rap lines... everyone from Kurtis Blow to the random kid on your block in the Bronx in the 1970's rapped those same lines, which is what the movie was making fun of. Beastie Boys' only connection is that they were about the thousandth rappers to use them.
