DVD/VHS Differences

Does anyone else notice the difference between the DVD and the VHS version. The VHS version is alot clearer and the sound is much better. I have both. I just brought 1 & 2 today and noticed it. The Film makers should come out with an Unrated version of them. Digitally Enhanced!

I have the dvd boxset of the two of them and there are noticeable differences, I cant comment on the quality of image or sound, but some of the more risque jokes are missing. The most noticeable to me were:

Hot Shots - When block is briefing the admiral and he replies "I dont have a clue what your talking about bill, not a *beep* clue"

Hot Shots Part Deux - During Toppers sex scene where she backflips onto him from the upper balcony and rides him like a bucking bronco are regretfully missing.

Oh! Also when ramada confronts Michelle at the end, she makes reference to "Remember all the fun we had in speech class and I'll *beep* up your life" (I never really understood that joke anyway. But it was still missing.

There are bound to be others but that was all I could spot off hand.

Everything I have read has said that the VHS is the cut version, and the dvd is the uncut version.

That doesnt negate the fact everyone who owns the Dvd has stated it is cut, realising this only after we'd given our videos away.

On my dvds all the jokes/situations you just mentioned is there.

Just watched it this morning through ONDEMAND and noticed something odd... when Topper and the Old Indian are speaking in the Indian's "native" tongue, there were no subtitles translating what was being said in either the scene with LtCmdr. Block, or the scene where Topper goes back later in the film.

I found that rather odd, and wondered which version of the film the ONDEMAND service was using, because I know in the VHS copy I used to have, it was subtitled.

I've just brought the Region 1 DVD versions of Hot Shot and Part Deux and apparently the first Hot Shots is 3 minutes longer than the UK VHS/DVD release and Part Deux is roughly 5 minutes longer.

Appart from the cuts mentioned here there's also a dubbed voiceover by Buzz Harley at the end of the film when Topper throws Buzz's eyes into the sea but I'm still not sure where the extra 3 minutes are. Although there is an extra joke about "sleeping with your sister", which I don't think is in the UK version.

The reasons for the cuts were because when the film's were released they had to get a PG certificate and PG films in the UK can't have the "f" word in them unlike the US PG-13 certificate which can have 1 instance of the "f" word.

Now that Imus got canned for saying "nappy", expect every DVD release from here on out to be cut. *beep* will be the new *beep* REDICULOUS!
