Watched Hot Shots on HBO last night, hadn't seen it since the 90s.

I enjoyed it, but I felt like the first 1/3rd of the movie was way more packed with jokes than the last 2/3rds of the movie. Or maybe first half / second half.

It didn't run out of steam, there were still jokes and scenes that landed, but they seemed way fewer and farther between.

But oh well, I always like all these zany comedies. I feel like it's kind of a dead genre.

Agreed, though I might give the movie enough credit that the first 2/3 was jam packed with jokes meanwhile the final third didn't have too much. The climax definitely feels far and few between joke-wise compared to the rest.

It's a shame this genre of comedy is long gone, and it went out on such a sour note with all those films that bastardized it throughout the 2000s.
