Lloyd Bridges was amazing

I know Charlie Sheen was the lead actor, but in my opinion the best lines of the movie were from the late, great Lloyd Bridges. Probably because he delivered them in a serious tone. In the Quotes section for this movie http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102059/trivia?tab=qt&ref_=tt_trv_qu , look how much of the clever dialogue was delivered by him.

Agree 100% just reading the lines with his voice in my head makes me crack up.

Bridges is even better in the second hot shots as the president. I could watch his scenes in that movie over and over

Roy? Roy!

I'm just on my way up to Clavius.

I think that's the head of the nail right there. Personally my favourite line is when he realises that he's 'never landed a plane in his life'. He says it in such a matter of fact way it never gets old.

Hey! You're not old enough to drink! Now go and die for your country!!!

You notice how he never uses the same forename for Commander Block *once?*
I've always wondered whether that was scripted or Lloyd Bridges adlibbed it - either way, he was easily one of the funniest, and straightest, straight men in comedy.

Just read through the Trivia section on the main page and apparently Lloyd Bridges wasn't the first pick for Admiral Benson... He was going to be played by George C Scott, but the Trivia says that Lloyd Bridges replaced him.
No idea how far along they were with the movie when the replacement happened, or if they'd even started filming.
Imagine that - Hot Shots! and Part Deux without Lloyd Bridges - it's just too weird to imagine.
