Do you think JM Barry would have liked this?

I think, after re-watching this last week, that he actually would have. It would have obviously been FASCINATING to him, not just to see a continuation of his story, but also to see how it was, in a way, BELIEVABLY (in that world) brought about. As in, the timeline all works out. Wendy would have been the age she is in 1991, etc. Super fascinating if you're a Pan nut, I imagine. I think he would have loved everything about it, especially the music and the emotions and the detailed plot behind everyone's pasts and how it comes about in the future.
Thoughts?

I don't think he would've liked it at all, in addition to the changes to the source material I also don't think he would've found it particularly flattering that the movie would actually go out of its way and say that the story of Peter Pan is...An actual story in the world of the film and that Barrie himself didn't exactly originate it( That pretty much discredits him as being a wildly imaginative writer and also doesn't respect the actual family who influenced his writing on the original text).

HE'D HATE IT.

It completely negates the point of Peter Pan! The boy who can't grow up!

I think he would have liked the scene where Peter gets his memory back and flies up over Neverland. Possibly the very end of the movie as well. But the main plot, no.

First off, Mr. Barry would have been confused by the 1990s scenes. Next, he would have not appreciated the crude humor and adult jokes buried in the film (if he could pick up on them at all). Thirdly, he wouldn't have liked seeing Smee kissing Hook in private. Finally, I don't think he really would have liked all the changes to the story, particularly the concept that Peter Pan came back to our world, grew up, somehow forgot everything, and then had to go rescue his kids when Hook kidnaps them. He would have seen it as ridiculous.

My thought is that JM Barry would vomit in his mouth when he saw this twaddle, because he was too poised to allow himself to vomit projectiles. My question to the OP is how did this thought even cross your alleged mind?

reply

He would have hated it because it doesn't make sense.

At top of everything else, he would have hated that Peter became as Wendy described "a pirate".
